Abandonment of Danville Utility Easements from IDA Properties in Pittsylvania County
W. Clarke Whitfield, Jr.
Business Meeting: 12/03/2019
The Industrial Development Authority of Danville, Virginia (IDA) is attempting to sell 4 (four) vacant, surplus lots located in Pittsylvania County. In order to facilitate the sale of the lots, the proposed buyers are requesting the release of unused Danville Utility Easements upon the properties. Danville Utilities does not intend to use the easements.
The IDA acquired four (4) lots in Pittsylvania County in the early 2000s from a failed gasification plant. The lots were a gift from the failed company and did not cost any public funds. These lots have since not been used and are surplus to the City and IDA's needs. The Danville Utility Easements were recorded for proposed gas pipes, however, no such gas pipes were ever installed, nor are they planned. The continued existence of these easements reduces the marketability of these lots.
Staff recommends Danville City Council approve the attached resolution to release the unused easements and facilitate the sale of the surplus properties.
