NRPA Grant - Mentoring Youth Initiative

The City of Danville has been selected by the National Recreation and Parks Association to receive a three year mentor and opioid prevention grant. The department was selected as one of five departments in the U.S., to develop and implement a youth Mentor program focused on ages 9-12 over the next three years. The department will work closely with NRPA and its grant resources to develop and implement the programs as well as with local partners.
The total funding for this project is $110,000 over the course of three years. With these funds, assistance will be provided to department staff, travel and training, program resources, materials and supplies etc. The grant covers the following:
One full-time grant specialist to oversee and implement the program;
Implement after school focused mentoring program to children ages 9-12;
Develop national model for mentoring and opioid awareness and reduction in youth; and
Training, materials and supplies and other needs as seen fit for program.
It is recommended that City Council adopt the accompanying ordinance providing funds for the Mentoring Opportunities for Youth Initiative.
