The City has received notification from the Department of Homeland Security that the Danville Fire Department has been approved to receive funding from the 2020 Fire Prevention & Safety Program in the amount of $125,889.52 for the purchase of Stove Top Fire Stop Extinguishers and for Fire Extinguisher Training for the elderly, with local funding in the amount of $6,294.48.
Funds from the Department of Homeland Security are given to the Fire Prevention and Safety Program to assist in helping localities throughout the Commonwealth educate the elderly about fire safety, as well as provide the necessary equipment to possibly prevent fires. The grant must be used within twenty-four months of the receipt.
It is recommended that City Council approve the attached Ordinance Amending the Fiscal Year 2022 Budget Appropriation Ordinance by increasing the revenue to anticipate the receipt of the grant funds from the Department of Homeland Security in the amount of $125,889.52 in Federal funding, and $6,294.48 from local funding for a total appropriation of $132,184.00.
