Subject:    Approval of Free Bus Service During November Elections

SUMMARY
It is proposed to offer free bus service during Election Day in November to encourage interested persons to vote.  Previously, free bus service was offered to the public on Election Day but was limited to one year at a time.  This proposal for free bus service would allow the transit system to provide free bus service for all fixed route and reservation-based operations on election day on an ongoing basis.  The Transportation Advisory Committee has supported offering free bus service on Election Day in November and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation indicated that a public hearing is not required.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends City Council approve the attached Resolution Approving Free Bus Service in the City of Danville during the November general elections on an ongoing basis.
