SUMMARY

The Danville Police Department has been informed it is eligible for a grant of $25,115 to be used for law enforcement purposes, from the United States Department of Justice 2021 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. Funds from this grant will be used to implement a Utility Terrain Vehicle project that will enable officers to increase their presence and reduce calls for service during statistically significant time periods in strategic locations in the city. The Utility Terrain Vehicle will be used to create a heightened sense of awareness, thereby leveraging the deterrence effect that high visibility enforcement has on specific criminal activity (i.e. theft, vandalism, suspicious/lewd behavior).

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached Ordinance Amending the Fiscal Year 2022 Budget Appropriation Ordinance by anticipating revenues of $25,115 from the United States Department of Justice 2021 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.
