COUNCIL ACTION
Business Meeting: 11/15/2022
SUMMARY
The Department of Public Works is submitting a project application to the Virginia Department of Transportation for Virginia Highway Safety Improvement Program funds. If awarded, the allocated funding will be used to install Flashing Yellow Arrows at the following signalized intersections: Main Street at Holbrook Street, Piney Forest Road at Arnett Boulevard, Piney Forest Road at Audubon Drive, and West Main Street at Park Avenue.
BACKGROUND
The Virginia Highway Safety Improvement Program (VHSIP) receives federal and state safety funding to implement safety improvements across the roadway network in Virginia. The VHSIP requires a data-driven, strategic approach to improving highway safety on all public roads, that focuses on safety performance. Localities can submit a funding application for specific safety improvements as identified in the Local Systematic Initiatives.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that City Council approve the attached resolution of support for the proposed Virginia Highway Safety Improvement Program funding application.
